On the Path to Leadership: A Spotlight on Alex Sosa

Meet Alex, Buckingham Properties’ Associate Facilities Supervisor! With more than 15 years in the facilities field and two years at Buckingham, Alex has worked his way from a Tech II to his current role as Associate Facilities Supervisor, continuing to grow his career in property management.

Alex’s career in facilities started when he was a teenager and picked up a painting job. His interest quickly grew into other areas of the field, leading him from general contracting and new home construction into residential and, eventually, commercial property management.

After two years at Buckingham, Alex earned his recent promotion to his current role as Associate Facilities Supervisor. The newly created position serves as a stepping stone toward a Facilities Supervisor role, giving Alex the opportunity to take on additional responsibilities while learning from and being mentored by experienced leaders within the company.

Alex’s new role has him overseeing Alex Park, a large medical complex whose main tenant is Rochester Regional Health. These days, he spends a little more time at a desk than he is used to while overseeing a team of four: Guy Muamba, Lou Jackson, Bobby Ward and Rob Davenport. After transitioning from residential to commercial property management, Alex says he has been loving the new position and the opportunities it has brought.

For Alex, one of the most rewarding parts of the job is leaving at the end of the day knowing he accomplished something. Whether he is fixing a problem, finding a solution or completing work orders to keep the property running smoothly, he enjoys staying busy and seeing the results of his work. He also credits the people and atmosphere at Buckingham for making the job enjoyable.

Looking ahead, Alex hopes to continue growing toward a supervisor or director position. He is currently working closely with Director of Facilities and Risk Management, Chris Leistman, who has become a mentor for Alex as he learns more about what it takes to lead in this new role.

When asked what advice he would give someone considering a career at Buckingham, Alex keeps it simple: “Be prepared to work.” He says Buckingham is a great company with great people, but you have to come in ready to learn, work hard and take on new challenges.
